Mamie McKenzie – Program
Coordinator
The Child Care Consulting Program, Tennessee Voices for Children, was
established in 1996, with initial and continuing funding support from
the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities.
The Program addresses needs associated with serious behavioral, developmental,
and environmental barriers to effective learning. Special emphasis is
placed on those children at imminent risk of being dismissed from their
child care setting.
The Program is staffed by individuals with extensive knowledge and experience
in the areas of child development, behavior management, mental health,
early childhood instruction, and in the development and delivery of training
services.
The primary focus for the Child Care Consulting
Program in FY 2003-2004 and FY 2004-2005 is to continue to develop,
field test, and disseminate
a variety of technical assistance service packages to staff and families
associated with child care centers and Head Start programs in the three
Grand Regions of Tennessee. Special emphasis will be placed on “train
the trainer” activities across communities. Technical assistance
packages addressing the mental health needs of young children and their
families include:
Promoting
Positive Change
Social-Emotional
Teaching Strategies
Young
Children with Challenging Behavior
Early
Screening Project
Positive
Parenting
Collaborative partnerships for the delivery of these technical assistance
services have been formed with a number of agencies including: Regional
Intervention Program Expansion Project; East Tennessee Regional Office
and West Tennessee Regional Office, Tennessee Voices for Children;
member affiliates of the Tennessee Association for the Education of
Young Children; and the Early Childhood System of Care networks in
Maury and Rutherford counties.
