Matthew A. Timm, Ph.D.

Matt Timm is Co-Principal Investigator of the Early Childhood Intervention Study (1997-2006) and the Sustained Community Use of Research-Based Intervention Practices Study (2004-2008), Tennessee Voices for Children and the University of Colorado at Denver. Dr. Timm serves as Key Consultant, Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning, Vanderbilt University. As Director of Early Childhood Programs, Tennessee Voices for Children, he heads the statewide Early Childhood Consulting Program and coordinates the early childhood component of the Tennessee Parent Information and Resource Center (TPIRC).

Dr. Timm is Director Emeritus (1974-1997), Regional Intervention Program (RIP), Nashville, Tennessee, an internationally recognized parent-implemented model for the treatment of families of young children with behavioral disorders. Since 1974, certified RIP programs have been established in 28 communities in Tennessee, Kentucky, Connecticut, Ohio, Washington, Canada, Brazil, and Venezuela. From 1964-71, he was a community organizer for the Arkansas Prisons Research Project (AR), Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (AR, MS), Southern Christian Leadership Conference (AL), ACTION/VISTA (AL, GA, FL), and The Teachers, Incorporated (NC).

Author or co-author of 13 book chapters and articles, he has presented to 38 national and international conferences; 47 regional and state conferences, and over 400 local workshops and conferences. Dr. Timm received a B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock; an M.A. degree in Special Education from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University; and a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology and Special Education from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.
