Family Support Group Co-Facilitator

Family Support Groups utilize a Parent/Professional Collaborative Model.  This means that all groups are co-facilitated by a parent of a child with mental health concerns and a professional in partnership. This is in keeping with the core values of the system of care philosophy mentioned earlier, that parents are to be full partners in the program development process.  Outreach Specialists train both the parent and the professional in this model and the procedures for TVC support groups.

Parent-To-Parent Program

The purpose of the TVC Parent to Parent Program is to offer a caregiver-to-caregiver support program through the SFSN.  Volunteer parents receive Parent Advocacy Training that includes children's mental health disorders, IDEA & 504, system of care/wraparound, becoming an effective advocate, Individual Education Plans (IEP), and Functional Behavioral Assessment and Manifestation Determinations.  First training sessions are planned for late Summer 2002.

If you are interested in becoming a Parent Advocate or Support Group Co-Faciliatator, please call the Outreach Program at 1-800-670-9882 or 615-269-7751.
